Get ready for two times the cuteness; Ashe & Ames in home lifestyle twin newborn session is below! This style of photography is so special for families with newborns. I much prefer in home portraits for newborns, as opposed to studio portraits, where they aren’t in their natural environment, but that’s just me! :) Even though, yes, the nursery is pretty perfect, and probably doesn’t stay this clean all the time, these pictures give us a glimpse into the Lawson’s family’s life – babies crying and needing pacifiers, the pets wanting attention, and mom and dad making hilarious faces at their babies, trying to understand why in the world they’re crying! That’s what I want my photography to capture. Not just the perfect portrait, but the real moments too.
The trick to getting soft, naturally lit portraits is lots and lots of window light. For indoor portraits like these, I make sure to shoot at a time of day where the sun won’t be streaming in directly from the side (like at sunset or at sunrise). We shot these around 10:00 in the morning. It was also so helpful that Caleb and Lauren’s home had a lot of white walls and ceilings; this makes it easy to shoot virtually anywhere in a room because the sun bounces off the white paint and reflects the loveliest, cleanest light on the subject. I also make sure to turn off any ambient lights in the room. There’s no need for the yellow-colored tint from a lightbulb to conflict with the natural light coming in from the windows. This saves me a lot of time in post too – way less editing time!
Ashe & Ames are incredibly blessed to have Caleb & Lauren as their parents. I loved watching my friends cuddle with and love on their sons. They are clearly so incredibly happy to be parents for the first time! Thank you Caleb & Lauren for inviting me into your home and letting me be part of the family for the day.
